I've never actually printed really large, so I'm not sure if there's a particular technique to it or not. I remember reading years ago that increasing the size in steps of about 10% worked best without creating artifacts, but then later someone claimed that the more recent Photoshop image resizing algorithms didn't require you to use so many steps.
