2025-04-11I chose news 2 you because I don't like to reinvent the wheel! The website is awesome and gives so many activities at several levels. I also love this site because my students participate in an alternate assessment that I create, and these activities all align with the standards. I love that I can find a whole month of activities and I don't have to worry if I am meeting the requirements for the standards in my classroom.News 2 you is a website that combines access to three links; news 2 you, unique, and symbolstix. The websites were created to be intertwined and give a variety of resources for students with disabilities. The website follows the curriculum with standard based lesson plans and activities to use with a variety of students at different learning stages.The news 2 you website alone publishes weekly newspapers with current events and topics. The newspaper contains words and symbols and can be read individually on paper or can be opened and read aloud to students. Activities, puzzles, recipes, and more are related to the weekly topics and are accessible in a variety of methods. I use the newspapers for reading and listening comprehension, presenting new vocabulary, and group or individual activities. My students are able to use symbols instead of words if needed which is a huge need in my class. I am able to work with deaf students to show them the picture and teach new signs. The science and social studies activities are great for my students because they are fun and actually on their level. They are getting access to all the same grade level standards as their peers, which is the hardest part in special education. It is hard to find resources that are appropriate for students with learning disabilities while still meeting the standards.
