Symbian 5th Mobile Atlas Creator(MOBAC) 1.9.1 Welcome to Mobile Atlas Creator Mobile Atlas Creator (formerly known as TrekBuddy Atlas Creator) is an open source (GPL) program which creates offline atlases for GPS handhelds and cell phone applications like TrekBuddy, AndNav and other Android and WindowsCE based applications. Desde hace algún tiempo vengo haciendo uso de una aplicación complementaria bastante interesante, de la que me ha parecido oportuno hacer mencion. Se trata de Mobile Atlas Creator. Captura de pantalla de Mobile Atlas CreatorSe trata de una aplicación multiplataforma que permite conectar con diversas fuentes de mapas online y realizar una descarga en local de dichos mapas. Entre las fuentes disponibles se encuentran Google Maps y Earth, Yahoo Maps, OpenStreet Maps, Microsoft Maps, y lo que puede resultar de mayor interés para los españoles, los mapas del Instituto Geográfico Nacional, a través del sistema SIGPAC (Sistema de Identificación de Parcelas Agrícolas).Mobile Atlas creator está pensando, como su propio nombre indica, para crear versiones offline de mapas, de cara a ser utilizado en dispositivos móviles. Está preparado para que los mapas puedan ser usados en aplicaciones tales como OruxMaps (probablemente la mejor aplicación GPS para móvil Android), TrekBuddy, Magellan y Garmin.El funcionamiento es bastante sencillo: se escoge el mapa con el que se desea trabajar (SIGPAC, por ejemplo), se indica en el menú de la izquierda cuántas capas quieren descargarse (suele estar tabulado entre 5 -poco nivel de aproximación- y 17 -equivalente más o menos a escala 1:5000-, y en el mapa, marcar la zona que se desea descargar. Se añade esa selección a un Atlas (Atlas Content), y posteriormente se crea el Atlas (Atlas Create).De acuerdo a mi experiencia, tanto para Google Earth como para SIGPAC los niveles más interesantes para tener descargados son los 15 y 16. En el caso concreto de SIGPAC, el nivel 15 corresponde a los mapas escala 1:25000 del IGN, mientras que el nivel 16 corresponde a fotografía aérea. Aunque, a la hora de hacer la descarga pensando en hacer uso de los mapas en un móvil, no está de más descargar niveles con menos aproximación (desde el nivel 10, por ejemplo), ya que no añaden mucho tamaño a la descarga, y en determinadas situaciones ayuda bastante a clarificar en qué zona nos podemos encontrar, sin tener que arrastrar demasiado el mapa por la pantalla del móvil.Sin embargo, hay otro uso para el que le estoy sacando partido a Mobile Atlas Creator, y es para el uso de los mapas descargados como capa para Google Earth. Existe la posibilidad, igualmente, de descargar los mapas en formato Google Earth Overlay, que es como Google Earth permite cargar capas externas a su sistema de representación cartográfico. Y esto tiene la ventaja, en el caso de los mapas del IGN, de que se acoplan al relieve de superficie que proporciona Google Earth.
