AV-Comparatives is a world-famous independent testing organization, which was established in Austria in 1999. Certification by AV-Comparatives provides an official, globally recognized seal of approval for software performance.The first half-year report by AV-Comparatives was just released, and Acronis received the prestigious Approved Business Security badge.To be certified in July 2020 as an Approved Business Product, products must pass AV-Comparatives’ comprehensive testing. Silver is the traditional gift on a twenty-fifth anniversary, and Avast is one of the few antivirus companies that's been around long enough to reach that milestone. The installer for avast! Free Antivirus 2014 celebrates the company's silver anniversary status as well as the company's 200 million users worldwide.As part of the celebration, the product's user interface has gotten a complete makeover. The main window reports security status and offers three big icons linking to important program features, plus a fourth marked "Add." Click that last one to add your own favorite feature, or right-click any of the four to swap features you use most; nice!The 2014 edition also streamlines its collection of real time "shields" against malware. Previously users were confronted with status and configuration options for eight distinct shields. Those eight have been rolled up into three easy-to-understand shields: File System Shield, Web Shield, and Mail Shield. I like the new approach.Good Ratings from the Labs Avast participated in all of the last 12 tests by Virus Bulletin and received VB100 certification in ten of those tests. After that, I conducted on-demand scans to check how successfully they discovered dangerous files.With its on-demand scan, Avira discovered three of the seven files on my PC.Because Comodo does not enable me to disable real-time scanning in its software, I am unable to obtain malware samples from the internet while Comodo is installed.One last thing I wanted to look at was how thorough each antivirus’s scan was on my PC and how long it took to finish the scan. When compared to other antivirus applications I’ve tried, Comodo and Avira both had rather speedy complete scan times. Comodo checked 495,365 items in 24 minutes. Avira examined 612,851 files and was only slightly longer, taking just 29 minutes to finish. A high number of false positives irritates users because they generate unneeded alarm and disruption.The Malware ProtectionTest measures how effectively an antivirus product identifies threats that are already on a device’s hard drive rather than being downloaded from the internet. The most current malware protection tests, which were conducted in September 2021, With a number of common threats. I’ll run the tests in a way that evaluates the scanning function of AVG and Webroot. I’ll also run a separate test that evaluates the real-time scanner looking for live threats.To start, I downloaded the first four separate malware test files from the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR). All malware files were blocked immediately.We can see from these results that AVG performed better out of the two programs and blocked all threats.To add to my own test results, I wanted to check what some leading antivirus testing labs found in their tests.I checked the test results from the AV-Comparatives Real-World Protection Test run from February to May 2020. The test involved running 754 sample threats against a number of antivirus programs. AV-Comparatives found that AVG blocked 99.7 percent of all sample threats it faced. During the February to March time period, Webroot was not included in the AV-Comparatives tests.AVG did exceptionally well again when put to the March 2020 Malware Protection Test, scoring a 99.98 percent protection rating.The results of my own tests and those from AV-Comparatives are enough for me to make AVG my clear winner in this part of the comparison.Impact on PC performanceHow much impact does running AVG and Webroot have on your PC?
